Before Hurricane Sandy slammed the east coast on Monday, October 29, Adventist Community Services Disaster Recovery (ACS DR) team leaders in the Atlantic Union, Greater New York, and Northeastern conferences were already activated and meeting in anticipation of the aftermath of the storm. New York and New Jersey were the hardest hit by the super storm that devastated parts of the east coast. ACS in the Atlantic Union territory is responsible for warehouse management and the leaders are in contact with the Office of Emergency Management and other agencies in New York City for updates and directions as they respond to people’s needs.
The presidents of both the Greater New York and Northeastern conferences have been in contact with their members. Following preliminary assessments, we have received no reports of loss of life in the church family. Some churches and the homes of a few workers and members have sustained damage as a result of the storm.
We continue to solicit your prayers for the families impacted by the storm, the ACS DR teams in the field, and all responders and leaders who are working diligently to make sure residents of the affected areas are getting the assistance they need.
The activities of the ACS DR team will be ongoing.
